A City-wide Assembly for Nottingham

Following the 2022 Nottingham Youth Climate Assembly, Nottingham Climate Assembly is supporting a City-wide Assembly, led by Nottingham Green Partnership, to help tackle the city’s environmental challenges and to minimise environmental impact.

The manifesto created by the Nottingham Youth Climate Assembly, highlighted the need in the City for a two-way communication between the public, the City Council, and 'stakeholders' (businesses and other organisations that can influence policy changes and that can be affected by them).

With now limited time towards achieving Nottingham's Net Zero ambition (CN28) we recognise there needs to be more engagement with the many communities that make up our city.

As the Youth Assembly has shown, a Climate Assembly for the whole city is a way of widening the involvement of local people in CN28. It can help communities understand the issues we face and encourage people to develop their own local initiatives.

We at NCA are supporting this City-wide Assembly, which is led by Nottingham Green Partnership*, with the City Council's backing.  We are focused on raising awareness and fundraising for this exciting project.

Who is Nottingham Green Partnership?

Nottingham’s Green Partnership, established in 1992, is made up of c.40 organisations with a shared goal of tackling the city’s environmental challenges and minimising its environmental impact. The partnership aims to encourage city-wide collaboration in advancing Nottingham’s green future and helping the city realise its ambition to be carbon neutral by 2028.

Organisations can request to join the Nottingham Green Partnership here.

How will the Climate Assembly work?

Nottingham residents from all ages, backgrounds and walks of life will be chosen to participate in the Assembly, using a democratic process called 'sortition'. This process will ensure that the Assembly's members are as representative as possible of Nottingham's many diverse communities.

Around 60 people will be selected to participate in the Assembly which will run for 4 weekend sessions in various Nottingham venues in 2025.

Climate Assembly Support Network

Nottingham Green Partnership is organising meetings in local communities to improve our understanding of concerns about climate change and biodiversity loss and to spread information about the Climate Assembly as a way citizens’ voices can be heard.
