Green Hustle “Net-Zero on a shoe-string – how do we do it?”
The Green Hustle Festival ‘24, “a celebration of life and creativity that aims to make our city greener, healthier, and more connected” was held in Nottingham’s Old Market Square on 1 June 2024. Always keen to promote their cause via outreach activity, Nottingham Climate Assembly (NCA) hosted a stall at the Festival held in the Old Market Square where they posted 3 questions to attendees :
Are you concerned about the Climate Crisis facing the planet and threatening life on Earth as we know it - very concerned, a little concerned, not really concerned?
How much do you know about CN28, the Council’s plan for carbon-neutral Nottingham - I have good knowledge of this plan, a little knowledge, nothing?
Is it important that local people help CN28 - vitally important, quite important, not very important?
Attendees had a chance to vote on their answers which demonstrated that there is still much to do to increase knowledge about CN28, and in addition, there was also strong agreement that local people should help achieve it.
NCA followed this up with a mini-assembly in the ‘TalKs’ tent tackling the question “Net Zero on a shoe-string – how do we do it?” Sixteen people joined the discussions and came up with various ideas, which mainly focused on:
Informing people about how they could help better via:
Food-growing schemes such as community gardens
Promotion of public transport and cycling
Better information about waste management
Skill sharing
Demand for better greening of verges, wastelands and support for carbon sequestration through land use.
