Nottingham City Council’s mini-assembly supports CN28
On the evening of 24th April, Nottingham City Council invited staff and councillors to a mini-assembly to discuss progress towards their goal of carbon neutrality by 2028. Members of the Nottingham Climate Assembly were on hand to facilitate the meeting.
The Council now has minimal finances and it is easy to feel overwhelmed by the difficulties, but this mini-assembly aimed to focus on the positives in working towards their ambitious CN28 plan. The meeting focussed on discussing two questions:
“Given the current situation, what are the areas where the Council can still progress towards CN28, & how?”
2. “How can we mobilise the City to help us reach the target?”
The outcomes were very positive and all attendees recognised that the Council must continue to work with others to achieve CN28. Additionally, attendees agreed that the Council needed to adopt a more consistent approach across the organisation and embed CN28 into every department. Various ways of engaging with citizens, businesses and other organisations were considered and many were seen as achievable.
Following the event several suggestions were made for more opportunities for mini-assemblies which will be followed up in the next few months.
